Abuja is more than just parks, hotels, and restaurants. I have never been a fan of art and culture but after visiting my first art gallery in Abuja, I mean, there is so much to love about paintings, sculptures, textiles, local crafts, and more.
At TourAbuja, we have conducted a couple of tours around Abuja and many of our clients have asked us to take them to see some of the best that Nigeria has to offer as far as arts and culture is concerned.
If you want to know where to go as far as art galleries in Abuja are concerned, I have visited seven I know and here’s my experience and what each of them offers to visitors today.
1. Windsor Gallery
Windsor Gallery is located at 7 Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse.
When I visited Windsor, I saw different Nigerian artworks from paintings to thread art and more. I mean, the thread art alone is something you would want to take your time to look at.
The artworks all have different stories behind them and if you are someone who loves Nigerian art, this is one gallery you should check out.

2. Orisun Art Gallery
Orisun Art Gallery is located on the first floor of Tropic Gallery Mall, beside Grand Square in the CBD.
The gallery has paintings, sculptures, metalwork, woodwork, and different types of art. I really loved the space because it is lovely and there are different things to see.
Entrance is ₦1,000 and if you want to take pictures, you will pay ₦3,000.

3. Nike Art Gallery Abuja
Nike Art Gallery Abuja is located along Airport Road.
If you love art or you just want to see what African creativity looks like, you can visit this place. There are Nigerian paintings, recycled art, jewellery, textiles, and other artworks from different parts of Africa.
Entry is free if you are visiting alone but there is a small fee for groups. They open from 10am to 6pm.

4. Moeshen Art Gallery
Moeshen Art Gallery is located at 1049 Abubakar Koko Avenue, Life Camp.
There is a lot to see here from paintings to moulded glass, woodwork, and other contemporary African art. The gallery also has artworks from Egypt, South Africa, Morocco, and other places.
If you go upstairs to the restaurant section, you will also find some unique pieces and souvenirs there.

5. Thought Pyramid Art Centre
Thought Pyramid is located at 18 Libreville Street, Wuse 2.
There are different forms of art here such as paintings and metal works. The place is also quite large and can be used to host events.
There is also a restaurant section, so after seeing the artworks, you can sit down and have something.

6. Retro Africa
Retro Africa is located at 12 Ukpabi Asika Street, Asokoro.
The artworks here are quite intriguing because some of them have a hidden depth. You may look at one artwork and not understand it immediately but after looking again, you may start to see what it is about.
There is also a restaurant there and I had a wonderful restaurant experience during my visit.

7. Abuja Arts and Crafts Village
The Abuja Arts and Crafts Village is located in the CBD.
This place has handmade baskets, sculptures, paintings, accessories, and many other African crafts. If you want to buy something local or get souvenirs in Abuja, you can also check here.
Visiting also gives you the chance to support the local artisans who make and sell these items.
They open from 8am to 6pm.
Things to Know Before You Visit
Before visiting any of these art galleries in Abuja, you should:
- Confirm what the entrance fee is
- Find out when the art gallery opens and closes
- Be sure that they allow you to take pictures
Some galleries are free while others will ask you to pay. Also, don’t just go around quickly.
Take your time, look at the different pieces and ask questions if there is something you want to understand.

Like I said, I have never really been a fan of art and culture but visiting these art galleries in Abuja showed me that there is actually so much to see and enjoy.
